A Memorial Day Meditation

The home of the brave

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD…” (Psalms 33:12)

On this Memorial Day, we remember the valiant military service members who sacrificed their lives for freedom. For as Scripture reminds us: “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13). Today and always, we honor their courage—it is because of their selflessness that America is the home of the brave.

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
